Ranaisms

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

“Only scream outside. Only grunt outside.” (The first one is a variation on our rule: Don’t scream inside.. The second.. ?)

“Daddy, may I grow up? May I grow up soon?”

“Caterpillar, beautiful butterfly? I grow up soon. I grow up, beautiful butterfly with wings.”(Pointing to her shoulder blades)

(After I added a second monitor to our desktop computer) “Why have two putadors? Why? Why?”

Interview with Rana

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Mommy: Rana, what do you want to do tonight?
Rana: Umm….park, polish feet, paint hands, play backward. (Translation: I want to go to the park, have you paint my toenails and fingernails and play in the backyard).

M: What is your favorite movie?
R: Tinkerbell (Translation: Peter Pan).

M: Rana, what is Tim doing right now?
R: Running.

M: Rana, what is Kailey doing right now?
R: Sleeping, no…wake. Translation: She’s sleeping, no she’s awake.

R: Daddy home!! Daddy derage!! Translation: (garage) Daddy came home!

Rana’s vocabulary and understanding of language is really taking growing. She is even starting to use different verb tenses! Adelle, is growing too. She is even more interested in electronics than Rana was at this age! She has been able to sit for a month now. She wants to crawl, but has no desire to roll over. Rolling is over rated anyway!

We are hoping to post a video blog soon so you can see the girls.

Adelle

New Adelle

She’s chubbier than Laurana was, that’s for sure. She seems to lack the jaundice too, so hopefully we won’t need the raver blanket this time!

Laurana and Adelle (Rana and Adi)

Laurana is fascinated by Adi, and loves to kiss her and pretend to feed her.

We’ll have more pictures up later on our Picasaweb account (http://picasaweb.google.com/yumbrad) … But wanted to get a couple up right away as photographic proof that we have some baby. You’ll have to take our word for it that she’s ours.

And the wait is over…

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

World, meet Adelle Morrison. Adelle, meet world.

Sex Time Weight Length Hair Loved
Female! 5:16am 6 lbs 15 oz 18.5 in Brown (for now) Incredibly

P.S. Oh ya… She answers to “Adelle Morrison Bozarth” :) … Morrison is Brad’s grandma’s maiden name!

Sarah was also very efficient. One contraction and two minutes worth of pushing and Adelle was here! (That’s one contraction with pushing - quite a few contractions before that with no pushing). Pictures to follow soon, no compact flash reader here at the hospital :)

Laurana-speak

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Laurana has quite a few words that she somehow created, and uses consistently, but are definitely not “English.” Here are some of the ones we know of, in roughly ascending order of weirdness:

Dow = Down

Dow = Up

Moy = More

Tanta = Santa

Ank-do = Thank you

Pees (always whispered) = Please

Aiyou = I love you

Diddy = TV

Aiyo aiyo = (a request to sing/listen to Old MacDonald - a reference to E-I-E-I-O)

Baba = Belly Button

Doo = Nose (which is weird, because she’s great at saying “No” and can say “pees”)

Boppy = Bunny

Doggy = Cracker

Shhhh = Fish

Bapoo = Diaper

Mah-moh = Water (drinking water, bathing water)

Pihpih = Pretty and/or jewelry

Deedle-eedle-eedle-eedle (repeating) = Dirty

And my personal favorite:

Hop-ssss (always whispered) = Flower(s)

Additionally, she is a master at animal sounds, and says “woowoo” for a dog, “mow” for a cat, “weewee” for pig (as in this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home), “booo” for cow, “baa” for sheep, “oohooh” for monkey (waving hands up and down), she beats her chest for gorilla, chomps her teeth for alligator, wrinkles her nose for bunny, roars and makes “claws” for lions and tigers and bears (oh my). Her duck is so good, trying to type it out would do it an injustice; suffice it to say it is very duck-like. She also says “ssss” for snake, “gob gob gob” for turkey, “eeeeee he he he hee” (like a horse neighing) for horse and various versions of high pitched squeaks for birds, mice, and chicks. Finally, my favorite is “ahhga-oodle-oodle-oodle-oodle (repeat as long as desired)” for rooster.

Face it, Laurana

Monday, March 20th, 2006

September was marked by a proliferation of new faces for Laurana. Her continuing mission was to search out new muscles and connective tissue, to boldly go where no expression had gone before. We believe her mission was a smashing success, but we’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Album 1: Laurana’s Blue Dress and Connor’s Visit
Album 2: Laurana Discovers the Mirror
Album 3: Laurana at 3 Months and Auntie Sharon
Album 4: Uncle Trav Visits and Laurana Tries Headwear

Will October bring a maturation of expression and more refined control of her facial contortions, or will Laurana seek new heights of emotive sillyness? Stay tuned…

Breaking News

Friday, January 13th, 2006

(AP, Mountain View)
Sources report that Laurana Bozarth turned one month old! She celebrated by napping.

Ok, so it’s not exactly breaking news. Ok, so it was almost 6 months ago. But it is the first time this event and those leading up to it are documented photographically on the internet. And that calls for a celebration. Nap time!

Album 1: Last Hurrah With Grandma and Grandpa
Album 2: Laurana’s First Spa Trip
Album 3: Laurana at 1 Month

Slacker

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

Ok, ok, I’ve been a bit remiss in posting updates and pictures. Well, at least according to everyone who’s NOT responsible for taking, organizing, touching-up, and uploading scores of pictures. So here’s a big album, hopefully that’ll keep me outta hot water (other than bathwater) for a while:

Bed, Bath, and Beyond!

Laurana has been doing great. We are tired, but at the same time we are very lucky to have a baby that sleeps well. We have to set the alarm to wake her up for her 4:30 and 7:30 AM feedings! The other morning the alarm went off for an hour before I finally groggily poked Sarah awake, who then groggily poked Laurana awake, who then groggily nursed. Badabadum, they’re the Groggy Family! (to the tune of the Adam’s Family)

Grandma and Grandpa Bozarth are in town for a nice long visit, which has been great. They’ve been a big help, and have been only too happy to hold L.L.Bean for hours on end if needed. They leave soon, though, which is a bummer. Between work and Laurana, I’ve been very busy - I’m hoping to be able to take some paternity leave as soon as I code up an mbuf linux kernel module!

Laurana still doesn’t know many tricks. I cheer her on, coax and plead with her to get her to do one push-up or something - “A puppy would be running around playing fetch by now!” I tell her, trying to be encouraging. Alas, it’s to no avail - she merely flails her arms and legs randomly and crosses her eyes at me. Her only new trick is a sort of nose dive that she will do, plastering her face against your stomach. It’s kind of surprising. You’ll be holding her upright, admiring her cute little face, and she’ll suddenly lurch with all her might and plow her cute little face floorwards. Ah well, as the wise old Leprechaun says, “Trix are for kids! (Not babies).” (italics mine)

Update: I’ve been informed that the Lucky Charms Leprechaun actually has nothing to do with Trix. It’s a rabbit, and it’s the kids who say it anyway. I apologize for my sugary breakfast cereal ignorance! Thanks to the Hinz family for catching this egregious error.

Getting Better

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Well, Laurana is showing her grit and determination - her bilirubin score is 14.8, down from 17.7 yesterday and 18.4 the day before. That means one more night on the raver blanket and she’s free! She gets one more bilirubin test tomorrow afternoon, but should that be lower (as is expected), her treatment is done.

Here are a few new pictures… enjoy! — Laurana Turns Six… Days

I’m hoping to create a nicer photo album for all our pictures, but for now, I’m using Picasa’s default export-to-web-page function. I want to do a custom layout, inspired by the simplicity of my friend Darick’s site, oceanful.com. And I want getting an album from Picasa to the web to be one click - I’m going to use the XML layout in Picasa. But I’m probably not going to do it as cleanly as Darick, because hey, I’m a parent too - gimme a break!
